ANDEE BLACKSUGAR is a singer, songwriter and guitarist in one person, who works from his flat in New York. The Project BLACK SUGAR TRANSMISSION (BST) was founded as a band, unfortunately the ex-members have their own bands. BST of these days is only Andee with all who are invited him to realize his sounds. It’s good, because concerts are unrepeatable, thanks this.
When somebody says Black Sugar Transmission, for many people is it only name of the band, only people who love punk, especially post-punk, know that name. Can you introduce to people, what is it BST?
First off, BST is only me, and whomever I invited to collaborate on my tracks. It is not a live band at the moment.
Who is Andee Blacksugar?
A self-contained singer, guitarist, songwriter who works out of his Brooklyn NY apartment.
Why is main influence post-punk in your music?
It’s a very fertile period, the early 80s, when bands ran in a thousand different creative directions with the freedom punk gave them.
How is the vision or main goal of BST?
The main goal of BST is to create unique musical worlds within the pop song format.
Is it hard to be original and give fans something new for you?
I don’t think so. I have my own personality and as long as I stay true to that and don't get lazy with my creative choices, I think I’ll always be able to produce fresh ideas that have a distinct identity.
What is in your view 'mojo' (magical charm) of BST?
I try to write catchy songs that don’t fall into predictable patterns.
What other jobs do you do?
I make my living as a musician, which entails all kinds of avenues, including music production, mixing, publishing, guitar lessons, etc.
Thank you for interview.
