Austrian band LOST DREAMS is a bunch of guys, who represent modern melodic death metal. You can find some dark, black and thrash metal elements in their songs. This group has supported bands like Soulfly, Sepultura... Currently they're finishing a new studio album. I briefly interviewed the bassplayer DOMINIK HORMANN not just about their tour with Six Feet Under.
Lost Dreams have been playing for eight years. During the time some members of the band have been changed. Who of the current members was at the begining of your career?
The two founding members Andy and Herbert are remaining of the original lineup. Then Rafael, me and Schleifi joined the band in 'half year - intervals' three years ago.
I can recognized the influence of bands like In Flames, Amon Amarth in your older albums. Who is the main author of music and lyrics?
The main authors of the music are Andy and Herbert as well, because both of them carry the spirit of Lost Dreams the most as you can imagine and are able to create our typical sound. Nethertheless everyone is able to put his ideas into the process of songwriting. The lyrics are done mostly by Schleifi and little bit by me, 'cause Schleifi is great in having ideas and feelings for emotional songs and I try to assist him put them into words. All those igredients make the sound of us tasty.
You have been on an European tour with Six Feet Under, Illdisposed and In Slumber in 2010. Which band member came across the idea to sign in the audition for the support band? What are your feelings about your whole tour?
We already played a small tour with both mainacts in December 2009 across Germany, so we simply asked if it's possible to hit the road togehter one more time, so we fixed this quite fast. The tour was a fantastic experience for the whole band, it's not usual for us to play shows to such big audiences every night over weeks. Especially the amazing audiences in the eastern parts of Europe we kept in mind, fucking crazy guys, horns up.
Is there anything you were inspired by Six Feet Under something whne you've said – maybe we should try different way?
No not in the musical way, because we would'nt use other influences knowingly, we are used to our Lost Dreams-way. Mostly inspiring it was to see, whow professional and with boundless passion both mainacts play their shows every day. Also the fellowship on tour was great, so we had amazing aftershow partys and good conversation every day. By the way, a big hail to Paul Speckman from Master, our merchandiser on tour, he lives in Czech as you might know.
Currently you're finishing your fifth studio album – is there anything new we can expect? When it will be released?
To be honest, its a little bit different to our other outputs, not to much, our typical sound is present as well, but it's maybe a little bit harder, more direct in a kind of way, more straight to your face, that's the thing. Me make no prisoners on that album. If every thing is going well, the release will be in autumn 2011 probably. We also did a videoshot in Vienna in March to one of our new songs, so stay tuned.
You've played two times in the Czech republic and you've always been strongly supported by fans. When we can see you again?
Oh, it's difficult to say, hopefully with the next bigger tour in autumn, but it's to early to be concrete. But it will be amazing and an honour to play in Czech again because of this – you might remember – fucking crazy guys called audience. So watch out.
